First, the problems and issues must be reviewed by any large-scale
implementation of enterprise metadata or an enterprise integration effort. These problems
must be addressed in order to create an architecture environment that can be governed and
moved to the highest levels of maturity. The Zachman framework will be used to establish
the breadth and depth of the architecture environment. The Web application environment will
be simplified in order to communicate how the enterprise repository can be implemented into
a large-scale organization, followed by a detailed design of the repository itself. Finally, the
Metadata Maturity Model will describe how technology organizations can use the repository
to actually govern the Web-enabled environment.
Issues.and.Problems
Implementing Web applications on a large scale presents many problems that can be addressed
with solid metadata principles. This section will review several of the problems that
need to be addressed in a large-scale deployment of a SOA.
Managing the Environment
How many assets are held within the corporation or large organization? Obviously, the way
in which we define an asset can increase or decrease that number. Suppose we have 2,000
systems or applications within the corporation, with an average of 10 databases per system.
