The world of information technology is changing at a rapid pace, where tools for metadata
acquisition, storage, and utilization are falling behind the demand. The same is true for the
standards required to integrate the vast amount of knowledge. A support model strategy is
based upon leveraging open and active lines of communication between technically-adept
staff and the ultimate consumer or producer of the metadata information. This strategy will
empower users to enable long-term, scalable and stable use of metadata technology. The
Metadata support model asks five basic questions of the technology environment:
??? What metadata products and services are available to me?
??? How can I utilize these products and services within my environment?
??? Who can help me in case I need some professional guidance?
??? Are the metadata applications ready for enterprise usage?
??? How am I doing in comparison to others and against best practices?
Success in metadata is not about deploying software packages or writing white papers.
