Establishing an adaptive Information Technology architecture
involves change for people, process, and technology. By planning evolutionary change and
implementing reusable elements, the architecture will permit consistent integration between
applications, increase the overall adaptability of the information technology environment,
increase the speed of solution delivery, and maximize information technology investments.
Architecture is just one example of an organization that should utilize the enterprise asset
catalog. While metadata focuses on the world of data architecture the vast majority of time,
metadata will play a pivotal role in application, functional, XML, and technical architectures.
The state of measurement here is the definable support from the standard bodies within the
enterprise. These three main functional categories define the program basics. Noticeably
missing from the program basics is any technology or standards. Much of this is assumed
within the architecture and tools environment.
