"Architecture of Reliable Web Applications Software"

By focusing on enterprise
assets, metadata solutions work seamlessly with the frameworks and base activities of the
architecture community. Deploying this enterprise view and treating technology investments
as assets, organizations can ensure that common solutions are built and reduce the level of
investment within the technology community.
The.Future.of.Enterprise.Metadata
Overview
The previous sections of this chapter focused on building the ideal environment for governing
the current Web application environment. Unfortunately, the Web-enabled environment
tomorrow will not look like the one defined by current standards. Just as traditional metadata
operated effectively within the data warehouse, most of the principles, standards, and
best practices did not scale to the enterprise level. The issue of scalability and the lack of
standards must be addressed by the innovation of new tools for integration. While we cannot
predict that these issues will be completely addressed in the near future, the long-term
view is that the vast majority of these issues will be resolved. What remains to be discussed
are the advancing technologies and trends that will need to be integrated into the design
and architecture strategy.
