They can be classified as: mathematical-based models or Artificial
Intelligence-based models (Gray & MacDonell, 1997; Martin-Albo, Bertoa, Calero, Vallecillo,
Cechich, & Piattini, 2003; Norman, Fenton, & Pfleeger, 1997). In the context of Web
services, considerable attention was brought to the QoS support by Web services. Therefore,
a number of works were proposed to categorize, specify, measure, and evaluate QoS for
Web services (Li, Ding, Chen, Liu, & Li, 2003; Mani & Nagarajan, 2002; Menasc?©, 2002;
Shuping, 2003).
Modeling QoS for Web services is in general similar to modeling quality for software products.
According to Salamon and Wallace (1994), there are two approaches to model product
quality: fixed model and define-your-own model. The existing fixed model for software or
component quality evaluation, such as the approaches referred to in Trendowicz and Punter
(2003), provides a fixed set of quality characteristics. In the second approach, the model

reflects the organization context and the QoS perceived by the quality model developers.
