e., Internet). Specific QoS attributes for networks are
bandwidth, delay, jitter, latency, and loss characteristics.
QoS.Issues.in.Web.Services.
To evaluate quality of Web services, it is necessary to define quality attributes. These attributes
are used as criteria for discriminating high-level Web service quality. Many quality
attributes have been proposed in the software engineering literature (Zeng, Benatallah,
Dumas, Kalagnanam, & Sheng, 2003; Martin-Albo, Bertoa, Calero, Vallecillo, Cechich, &
Piattini, 2003; Norman, Fenton, & Pfleeger, 1997; Salamon & Wallace, 1994; Trendowicz
& Punter, 2003); however, they are insufficient to cover all the important aspects of Web
services. Common quality attributes are efficiency, functionality, portability, reliability,
usability, maintainability, expandability, interoperability, reusability, integrity, survivability,
correctness, verifiability, flexibility, performance, dependability, security, and safety
(Hailpern & Tarr, 2001). A few works on Web services QoS classification are presented
in Mani & Nagarajan (2002) and in Shuping (2003). Their focus is on the classification of
QoS-supported attributes.
Differentiated Classes of QoS for Web Services
Selecting suitable Web services regarding the QoS provision is a determinant factor to ensure
customer satisfaction.
