network link can be used to fetch some files in anticipation. Other approaches are based on
anycast services (Bhattacharjee, Ammar, Zegura, Shah, & Fei, 1997; Patridge, Mendez, &
Milliken, 1993), pushing and multicasting, and DNS-based approach (Dias, Kish, Mukherjee,
& Tawari, 1996; Kartz, Butler, & McGrath, 1995). Replication is a well-known and
natural way to distribute load and improve system performance (Baentsch, Baum, & Molter
1997; Obraczka, 1994). The primary aim of replication is to increase data availability and
to reduce the load on a server by balancing the service accesses among the replicated servers.
Scalability.in.SOA..
The SOA architecture enhances the interoperability of distributed systems through the integration
of languages and independent protocols that make easier the publication, the discovery,
and the binding of distributed components. According to scalability, SOA do not address
this issue and do not lead to better scalability than the traditional existing architectures.
However, SOA can scale using the same approaches described above.
Nowadays, the trend in Web services management is to integrate scalability within the service-
oriented architecture.
